Newsletter 2026 Apr

April 28, 2026 by Centre for Global Mission

Dear friends of CGM,

After almost 7 years as the Director of CGM, Malcolm will finish up at the end of this month and join his wife Elizabeth in official “retirement”. It’s hard to imagine not having Malcolm around. We will miss his godliness, his insightfulness and his care – not just for us on the team but for many in the office at College as well.

It’s hard to imagine not having Malcolm around. We will miss his godliness, his insightfulness and his care – not just for us on the team but for many in the office at College as well. Malcolm has also led us through a time of maturation and growth as a Centre – not to mention the turbulent COVID years – sharpening our focus and increasing our capabilities to serve partners in various parts of the world. He will be sorely missed.

However, we take comfort in knowing that his involvement in CGM won’t be stopping right now. If you know Malcolm and Elizabeth, it’ll be no surprise to you that they’ll still be busy in “retirement” serving the Lord – just with a bit more flexibility now that they don’t draw a stipend.

For 2026 they’ve already lined up a month of ministry in D.R. Congo. Moreover, Malcolm will continue to serve as the Bishop for International Relations of the Sydney Anglican Diocese (he has always done that while also been the Director of CGM) and he will continue to commend CGM to churches, dioceses, denominations and seminaries that could benefit from a cohesive theological curriculum that is the PTC. We are really thankful that we continue to have Malcolm as an advocate for CGM and pray that our ongoing partnership will benefit God’s people in many more places.

CGM is pleased to advise that Rev Dr Tim Hu has been appointed as the new CGM Director effective from 1 May 2026.

Now back to normal programming as we showcase some of what’s been happening at CGM.

In our last newsletter we provided an update on our partner, JOFC in Thailand and their translation work in Thai and Lisu. We are pleased to share that the Lisu Online Bible College was recently established and now, for the first time, the PTC is available online in the Lisu language.

Extract from Lisu Introduction to the Bible

Pray:

  • Pray for the Lisu students as they commence their studies online.
  • Give thanks for the diligent work of the translation teams and pray for the ongoing translation of PTC in the Thai and Lisu languages.

Last year we commenced the Nepali Translation Project and 2 subjects have already been completed. Currently we have 4 partners using Nepali PTC:

  • EQUIP, Malaysia
  • Anglican Training Centre, Nepal
  • Nepal Baptist Seminary, Nepal
  • Ben George, Pastor – Auburn & Newington Anglican Churches and Chairman – Archbishop’s Advisory Board for South Asian Ministries (Sydney Diocese)

Compassion Burundi-Abagirampuhwe, Burundi

Compassion Burundi-Abagirampuhwe is an independent organisation that supports widows, orphans, abandoned, distressed children and women of Burundi to thrive in their communities. They also provide theological training for church leaders and lay people in Burundi, located in east-central Africa. Through partnership with CGM they have access to the PTC resources in English and French and their aim is to have well-equipped ministers in the church, especially different department leaders (Children, Youth, Men, Women, Intercessors and Deacons).

Baptist Evangelical School of Theology (BEST), Cameroon

The Baptist Evangelical School of Theology (BEST) is a seminary under the Cameroon National Baptist Convention (CNBC) which trains pastors and lay people. It is located in Fundong, Cameroon. They are using the PTC resources in English as part of their training programmes.

Diocese of Upper Southern NyanzaKisii, Kenya

The Diocese of Upper Southern NyanzaKisii is within the Anglican Church of Kenya located in Kisii, Kenya. The inauguration of St Philip’s Cathedral Satellite Campus for Theological Education and Pastoral Training was held in February 2026. The Diocese will be training clergy and evangelists using the PTC resources in English.

The Anglican Church of the Indian Ocean, Madagascar

We already have two CGM partners in Madagascar, but we have recently partnered with the Anglican Church of the Indian Ocean, which is a Province within the Anglican Communion comprising the dioceses in Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles. The first Anglican missionary arrived in Madagascar in 1864. In 1874 the diocese of Madagascar was founded. There are now six Anglican dioceses in Madagascar. CGM has provided the Province with access to the PTC resources which they are using to assist with their training of lay and ordained church workers in all Anglican dioceses within Madagascar. They are currently using the Moore College PTC material in French and Malagasy. There are ongoing translations of the PTC material into Malagasy. CGM is looking for funds to continue the Malagasy translation work.

Grace of God Orphan Ministry, Malawi

The Grace of God Orphan Ministry in Malawi is a non-profit, faith-based organisation, established in 2004 with the primary goal of caring and supporting orphans, vulnerable children, elderly and disabled and less‑privileged people. The organisation is also committed to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ through discipleship, evangelism and training pastors who are ministering with no formal qualifications from any Bible school. CGM has provided Grace of God Orphan Ministry with the English PTC material which they are using to assist with their training of pastors in Malawi.

Nepal Baptist Seminary

The Nepal Baptist Seminary is an educational ministry of the Nepal Baptist Church Council. The seminary provides mission-oriented theological education in Nepal. Partnership with CGM has enabled the seminary to use the PTC resources to assist with their training of pastors and lay people in Nepal. They are currently using the PTC material in English and Nepali. There are ongoing translations of the PTC material into Nepali. CGM is thankful that current funding is sufficient to complete the first 6 PTC subjects and is looking for funds to continue the Nepali translation work for the next 6 subjects of the PTC.

Anglican Diocese of Tarime, Tanzania

The Anglican Diocese of Tarime is within the Anglican Church of Tanzania, and is located in northern Tanzania. They are currently using the PTC material in English and Swahili to assist with the training of lay people in their diocese.

Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia

The Diocese of Vanuatu and New Caledonia is a diocese in the Anglican Church of Melanesia. The diocese is based in Santo, Vanuatu. They are using the theological training material to assist with the training of pastors and lay people in their diocese. They are currently using the Moore College PTC material in English and French.

Pray:

  • Give thanks for each of these new partnerships and all those involved in theological education in their organisations.
  • Pray for all the students who will benefit from the PTC training material and ask the Lord to equip them for their current and future ministries.

You may have heard about the recent cyclone that hit Toamasina on the east coast of Madagascar in February. During that time one of our CGM Partners was teaching PTC to a group of students. We give thanks for God’s protection of the leaders and the students, who were all kept safe. However, this devastating cyclone has impacted many, many people, including a personal connection to one of the leaders.

Pray:

  • Pray that ongoing support will be provided to all who were affected by this disaster.
  • Pray for the students who were at the training session as they continue serving the Lord.
  • Give thanks that the leaders and students were kept safe during the cyclone.

Pray

Please continue to pray for all of the CGM partners around the world. Pray that God would bless their efforts to teach, train and equip their students in their varied local contexts.

Please pray for our CGM Team as we farewell Malcolm. Give thanks for his work and ministry to us and to our CGM Partners over many years. Pray for Malcolm as he transitions to retirement and continues in his role as International Bishop of Sydney Diocese.

Focus on Russian Translation Project: Our translator is currently working on the Russian translation of Old Testament 2 and students with our Central Asia partner are already scheduled to study this subject early next year. After the completion of this subject, we have no further funding for this project. Would you like to help support this project? Donate to the Russian Translation Project.

THANK YOU

We really value your prayers for us and our partners – thank you for your partnership in the gospel.
